The Colorado Forest Restoration Institute (CFRI) at Colorado State University is seeking applications for two different positions: Research and Monitoring Crew Leader and Senior Research and Monitoring Field Technician

Research and Monitoring Crew Leader

Fully position description

CFRI is hiring experienced crew leaders to assist with forestry data collection and crew management in support of our research and monitoring field studies. Crew leaders oversee crews of 2-4 technicians to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality data collection while operating in backcountry forest landscapes. Duties include (1) measuring forest and tree characteristics, (2) fuel characterization and sampling, (3) plant identification, (4) safely navigating with maps, compass and GPS, (5) data management and quality control, (6) training of new technicians, and (7) daily crew management activities and implementation of safety protocols. Crews will work on a variety of forest projects, which focus on assessments of fuel mitigation treatments. Backcountry travel to monitoring plots is required.  These are full-time positions from April through October 2024, with potential for extension dependent upon funding. Crews work 10-hour field days, frequently traveling for 4-day or 8-day trips and camping overnight near field sites.

Senior Research and Monitoring Field Technician

Fully position description

CFRI is hiring experienced research and monitoring field technicians to assist with field data collection and management in support of our research and monitoring field studies. These are full-time positions from April through September 2024, with potential for extension dependent upon funding. Senior technicians assist crew leaders working with 2-4 technicians to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality data collection while operating in backcountry forest landscapes. Crews work 10-hour field days, frequently traveling overnight for 4-day or 8-day trips to lodge near field sites.
